New Bedford’s Two New Ambulances

New Bedford EMS and Director Michael Thomas are proud to announce that New Bedford EMS has added two new frontline ambulances to the fleet. These two new units have been placed into service, replacing Medic 2 and Medic 4 in the City’s South End and far North End. This addition enables the department to ensure our ability to provide safe, reliable and modern emergency care to the residents and visitors of New Bedford.

These ambulances were purchased in 2023 utilizing funds from the Capital Improvement Plan after diligent work by the Department, the Mayor, the CFO offices and City Council. Purchased in the Fall of 2023 New Bedford EMS took delivery of these units in January of 2026. These two new ambulances are Ford F-450 Chassis with a Braun ambulance module, a combination known throughout the EMS industry for its durability, safety and proven reliability in demanding emergency response environments.

“These new ambulances represent an important investment in both patient care and provider safety.” Stated Director Thomas. “Replacing frontline vehicles on a scheduled basis ensures our crews and the residents have dependable equipment while responding to emergencies throughout the city. I appreciate the Council, Mayor’s Office and the CFO for keeping us on track with replacement schedules.”

The new ambulances include many modern safety and patient care features designed to support EMS providers while they deliver the high-quality pre-hospital care New Bedford has come to know and expect. Some of the modern features include 360-degree exterior cameras, interior monitoring cameras, as well as improved seatbelt restrain systems, and Stryker Power-Load stretcher systems.
