History

Established in 1976

New Bedford Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was established on April 26, 1976, as the first "third service" Public Safety Department in the state of Massachusetts. Over the years, we have grown and evolved, becoming a vital part of the New Bedford community.

Join us on this journey as we continue to make a difference in the lives of New Bedford residents and visitors, one emergency at a time.

A Journey of Innovation

Throughout our history, we have been at the forefront of innovation in prehospital care. We started with just two ambulances, available 24/7, and have since expanded to meet the growing needs of our city. Our commitment to excellence led us to upgrade our services, train our staff in cutting-edge techniques, and implement new technologies to improve patient outcomes.

Community Engagement

We believe in giving back to our community. Our dedication extends beyond emergency response, as we actively engage with the community through training programs, public access defibrillators, and support for local education initiatives. Our goal is not only to respond to emergencies but also to educate and empower our community to respond effectively in times of need.
